Today’s Let’s Read session was dedicated to an activity hosted by renowned urban planner James Rojas. Mr. Rojas regularly lectures at universities, planning conferences, and grassroots community meetings on land use and transportation. He also founded the Latino Urban Forum and developed the design-based Place It! initiative.
The kids used odd and colorful items to build models of communities, and shared them with the group as they discussed what urban planning is all about. From Mr. Rojas:
We gave the children an opportunity to learn about urban planning, gave them a voice in the urban planning process, and showed them that community engagement can be fun.

Special thanks to one of our amazing tutors, David, for coordinating today’s project and introducing Mr. Rojas to our program!
