Today at Let’s Read – West LA, we learned about the difference between fiction books and non-fiction books. Most of the books we read during individual reading time are fictional stories, but we also have many non-fiction books to choose from.
For today’s activity, we split into small groups and read books about the ocean, jungle animals, and pets. Everyone had to write down one fact that they learned from the book. Then, each student had to write down an opinion they had about the subject of the book.
We learned that baby blue whales drink 100 gallons of milk per day! We learned that people with pets get sick less often. We learned how long it takes for rain to reach the ground in a dense jungle.
And we found out which animals our students think are cute!
