The day after Halloween, we found out that Batman and Elsa were very popular with our Trick-or-Treaters. Today, we started with a tricky activity that asked the students to cut out a house, with its roof, doors, window… But when they unfolded their papers, they discovered they’d really made a jack-o-lantern mask!
After individual reading, we did an activity called Word Swap. Parts of some of our kids’ favorite stories were written on poster boards—The Cat In The Hat, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Some of the words in these stories were written on index cards, and we asked the kids to swap the word with index cards of their own to create original, and often very silly, brand new stories!
